1995 Yj 4" lift 33" x 12.5 Tires Rough Ride

2 Attachment(s)
Hey all new here but i have a question i hope someone can help me with. I just purchased a 95 YJ with 4" lift and 33"x 12.5" Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires. I see that the shocks are white and leaking a bit but the ride is terrible! Is there a way to find out what springs where used for the 4" lift (eg stamped somewhere on the springs) so i could maybe get a good set of matched shocks to improve the ride? The ride is so bad it seems it is bottoming out every bump and it feels like i get air if i hit a dip on the hyway. I sure would like to get this under control without ripping out the current springs and redoing a lift again to get some kind of a matched suspension.
TIA

short wheel base will ride rough. My jeep is the same rides rough, If shocks are leaking or are done jeep will bounce after you hit a bump. nice jeep you got there

How much pressure are you running in your tyres?

I did check the tire pressure after i posted this message and there was 30 PSi in the tires. I lowered them to about 17-18 and it has helped a lot. I see the rear shocks are pretty much pooched so i am currently looking for some new ones but here in Lethbridge there are not alot of places to buy new ones so i am going to have to do a little online shopping. Any good shocks out there i should look for. Jeeps are new to me as i used to have samurai's and trackers so i am on a learning curve.

There should be a part number painted on the springs. (at one time) This number could tell you the manufacture and this should help matching shocks. There use to be a few good 4x4 shops in Calgary that could help you out just with the lift and year of Jeep. Good Luck

i would start with a set of boomerang shackles, hard to tell by looking at the pictures but the shackles look to be at a pretty vertical angle, witch can cause a rough ride. also make sure that all the shackle bolts and leaf spring bolts are torqued to the right torque spec this can also cause a rough ride if they are to tight. but i'm thinking the shackles will be the bigger problem, they should be at about 75* to the frame at ride hight. but it could just be the way the pictures look.

90ft/lbs on the shackles, and 100fl/lbs on the frame side of the lead spring mounts.

May be adjustable shocks would work nice, that way for offroading you can set them or for hwy, usually have 5 or more settings.
Shopping on line there are a few Cdn 4by4 stores that will ship for free.

Boomerang shackles are a bandaid for the fact thesprings are too short. The longer the shackle the more leverage you get and it smooths out the ride. IMO they are prolly Rough Country springs.RE makes really nice springs for the YJ. You can also use Rancho 90000 series adjustable shocks. You probably should be running 24-26 lbs of air in your tires if you do any kind of highway driving.
