wrangler light issues

Hey everyone. I've got a '97 wrangler 4cyl. 5sp. no a/c. Whenever i step on the brake the radio and cluster lights dim. they blink on and off when i tap on the pedal. also when i turn on the right blinker and only the right blinker, all the signal lights blink like i just put on the hazards. any suggestions where to start. thanks

Greetings,
The first thing I would check is ALL your grounds.

I agree, even though I know nothing about electrical systems.

But since the brake pedal seems to be at the root of the problem, I'd start by ruling out all the grounds and other connections hooked up to the stop lamp (brake light) switch. You'll find it on the brake pedal mounting bracket under the dash. Remove, clean and reinstall each ground connected to that switch till you find the problem.

If that doesn't work, Plan B will have to kick in, but you'll still have done something good for your Jeep.

I would check the ground to the rear right signal light as well.

Re: wrangler light issues

ok. i checked all the grounds and they are fine. cleaned the brake pedal switch and it's good. no change. here's exactly what it's doing.
*** w/ headlights off right blinker blinks but both front and rear and both sides blink like i have the hazards on.
*** w/ headlights on right blinker does not blink at all unless i do it manually.
*** w/ headlights off when i press brake pedal cluster and radio lights dim.
could it be my turn signal switch on the steering column ? The left blinker always works fine. thanks guys for the help

Did you check your Marker light grounds also, and I would check each bulb (take it out and put back in) to make sure connections and type is correct. I personally haven't seen a switch do what you are saying but I guess it is possible, It really does seem a bad ground on a marker light....

good luck

jiminiy christmas i found the problem guys. someone put the wrong bulbs in. they were only single purpose bulbs, the truck calls for double purpose. i feel stupid and mad that i didn't catch it earlier. thanks for all your suggestions.
