You have to drive a TJ carefully in the snow (on the street). This past winter (I'm in Southern Alberta) I had my TJ in 4wd for weeks-on-end. In 2wd it doesn't drive very well - to light, tires to big. However, that being said - It's still great to drive in the snow, in 4wd it'll go anywhere.

I figure that it is about the same as the cherokee, it is in 4wd most of the winter. the cherokee back end wants to come around if it is not. I just bought a 06 TJ and pick it up on friday so we will see about winter driving

You'll have to be a bit more careful with the tj over the xj. the difference in wheelbase dose make a difference.

I drive my TJ in Moose Jaw during the winter. This "city" is the world's hell hole for built up ice and seriously deep ruts. Aside from driving very carefully I installed a set of Michelin X-Ice winter tires and things have improved when driving on these ice covered and rutted roads.

The Michelin X-Ice tires are not the best item when it comes to deep snow however. Not really a problem for a Wrangler in the first place I suppose, but even less of an issue with my Aussie Locker up front.

I am looking forward to winter driving, as it is always fun. Thou the TJ might be a little interesting as i can very easily kick the back end out on wet pavement. I just recently found out that mine came with factory limited slip.
