Up shift arrow on 5speed
Pleased to say that I am now the proud owner of a 1999 TJ. Just wondering hat triggers the up shift arrow, it shows at what I consider low revs?

Re: Up shift arrow on 5speed
Put some black tape over that idiot light and ignore it completely. It was a feature added as a practical joke by a devious Chrysler engineer after a liquid lunch.
But in answer to your question, here's what the 98 FSM says: The upshift indicator lamp is controlled by the instrument cluster circuitry based upon a message received from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on the Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) data bus. The upshift indicator lamp illumination brightness is also adjustable, using the same input from the headlamp switch as the cluster illumination lamps. The PCM uses inputs from many sensors and its internal programming to decide whether the engine speed and load conditions are correct for a transmission upshift. The PCM then sends the proper message to the instrument cluster on the CCD data bus to turn the lamp on or off. The PCM will send a lamp-off message three to five seconds after a lamp-on message, if an upshift is not performed. The lamp will then remain off until the vehicle stops accelerating and is brought back into the range of lamp operation, or until the transmission is shifted into another gear. What the FSM does not say is that shifting when the light tells you to may provide maximum fuel economy, but will also make the vehicle virtually undriveable in most normal situations. Pay no attention to it and all will be good. |

Re: Up shift arrow on 5speed
Agreed, if you wanted to be told when to shift, you would have bought an auto.

Re: Up shift arrow on 5speed
agreed disregard it

Re: Up shift arrow on 5speed
Nothing like a 2 the point answer. Its another idiot light, as the man says ignore it or tape it. You have 33" tires on ur tj the light tells u to shift at 2000 rpm yea right, if u have small tires maybe.

I thought it was to tell you that your jeep is still up on it's wheels lol

Re: Up shift arrow on 5speed
What that stupid light is actually doing is telling you to forget what's going on around you and look at it instead. Should be illegal.
