Maybe it's nothing, but....
Is it a manual or an auto??
What does that short noise sound like??
Why did you put a new clutch kit in before you knew what was wrong??
Did some goof reface your flywheel instead of replacing it??
Some details would be nice if you're actually interested in getting some help.
My wife gives me the gears all the time, I know what that sounds like.
But your problem is still a mystery.
Man oh mon.....not much I can do with a vague question like that.

Re: trany noise !!

sorry for being vague !!
it is a 5 speed trany ... sounds like loose gears ??? or something loose ??? does not do it while the motor is idleing ,its like a vibration when i turn the key off ??? only lasts till the motor stops turning ??
i replaced the cluch kit ,because i knew when i bought the jeep ,the throw out bearing was gone ,so instead of replacing just that ,, i did the hole clutch , i know that the trany lube is very light weight 5w30 lube ,, so maybe im just not used to the noise ,, if it was heavy weight i probable wouldnt hear it
no problem shifting ...drives great ...to me it just sounds like loose gears or sincro's ... i realy dont know ,maybe they all do it ??? 250 k ,fluids were changed in may last year ?? motor runs great
maybe its just those tranny's

Re: trany noise !!

Might be as simple as a mount coming loose somewhere or.....

Most manual transmissions make some noise during nor-
mal operation. Rotating gears generate a mild whine that
is audible, but generally only at extreme speeds.
Severe, highly audible transmission noise is gener-
ally the initial indicator of a lubricant problem.
Insufficient, improper, or contaminated lubricant will
promote rapid wear of gears, synchros, shift rails,
forks and bearings. The overheating caused by a
lubricant problem, can also lead to gear breakage.

Recommended lubricant for AX5 transmissions is
Mopar 75W–90, API Grade GL–3 gear lubricant, or
equivalent. Correct lubricant level is from the bottom edge, to
no more than 6 mm (1/4 in.) below the bottom edge of
the fill plug hole.

Check your fluids first, I don't know about that 5W30 in a tranny.

Re: trany noise !!

hi thanks for the info ... i believe my tranny is the NV3550 and i also think that the correct fluid is
Synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (5w-30) ,now i didnt do the fluid change ,so im not sure what they put in there ,but when i checked it is was very light weight, and clean !?? and they wrote 05/08 on the side of it . my model is the 4ltr sport . but i dont have a manual for it ,
for all i know it could just be the fork rattling around whemn i shut it off ,because i tried shuting it off with the peddle pressed ,and there was no noise ????
confused???

Re: trany noise !!

You're right, if your Jeep is a 6 cly.you have the NV3550.

5W30 synchromesh fluid should be fine even thought the FSM says:

"Required lubricant for the NV3550 is Mopar Manual
Transmission Lubricant, P/N 4761526. This is the
only lubricant to be used in NV3550 transmissions.
No other lubricants are acceptable, or recommended.
The correct transmission lubricant level is to the
bottom edge of the fill plug hole (Fig. 3)".

You say when you shut it off with the pedal depressed it doesn't make the noise. Don't you always depress the clutch to shut it down?
