Torx tools for hard top removal
 

can anyone tell me the tools needed to remove hard top? The owner's manual is sketchy, all is states is a Torx #40.

The torx is all you need. To take it off, there are the torx bolts in the back (3 on each side if I remember correctly) and the 2 latches above the windshield. Disconnect the wiring & washer fluid hose in the back and you are done.

Thanks Jimmy, it's easier than I thought. Has the Jeep for a week and am looking forward to summer. The mpg really is lower than I thought, but its worth it! Someone posted that Jeep's have the aerodynamics of a brick. It's true!

I haven't had my Jeep for long either, and I can't wait for the summer. I haven't had the opportunity to drive with the top off, but had it off a couple weeks ago to take the soft top out (the dealer had it fastened in place).

As for the mpg, it's not the best but it's worth it.

My soft top is in the Jeep too, I should take it off and store it til summer?

It doesn't really matter. I took it out for the extra space and to prevent it from getting damaged when putting stuff in the back. It took me about 25 min to remove the hard and soft top, and that was without doing it before.

When you disconnect the wiring harness and washer fluid hose at the left back of your hardtop, don't forget to plug up the end of the washer fluid hose like I did :mad:

To make matters worse, it took me a while to figure out where the moisture was coming from. I ASSumed it was water at first.

Thks for the gifted reason I could have heard that during the past summer when it was more than damp at the rear inside..until I found it wasn't the rain..lol
Yes removing the soft top completely, frame and all gives u lots more room and isn't hard to put back.

It is recumended to take the soft top out when the hard top is on
due to ware and rubing against the hard top.

Yeah, also get rid of the Torx Bits .. they are PITA's. Get some 3/8, 5/16 (what ever fits) bolts, some Flat Washers and a some Wing Nuts. Wing nuts sit under the lip and you will not need the second wrench to hold it while your tightening down the hard top.
I bought some 3/8 Eye Bolts from Home Depot, put them in and they stay in when the top is off, now I also have some tie down points when things get to high in the tub!! http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumb_4...27367xu0iN.jpg
