T-case problems
 

Guys need some help. Just installed a new (used) t-case (231) from a 2006 TJ into an identical 2005 TJ. For some reason I'm locked in 4 wheel-drive. The arm is free and moving fine and even when I move the arm from underneath manually I can hear the t-case clicking from what I think is 2wd to 4wd but no luck, its still locked into 4wd - not matter the position of the shifter.

Any help appreciated.

How are you determining that it is locked in 4WD? Is the vehicle up on jack stands or a hoist when you do this?

If you're just looking at the front drive shaft, it always spins.

Yeah I get that the front driveshaft will always spin based on the front wheels turning and that it disengages at the t-case, but this is deinitely in 4wd as front wheels spin up on jackstands no matter the position of the t-case shifter. I'm assuming the mechanism inside the t-case isn't working.

It's a long time since I've had a t/case apart. did you try shifting it into other positions, neutral for instance? If it's not been shifted for a while the bushings on the shift fork night be sticking on the rail, if that's the case it might come back if you shift it a few times. If not you'll have to pull the case apart and take a look, they're not difficult to pull apart.

It does find 4H, N and 4L but no 2. I've decided to pull it and brake it apart to and see whats wrong. I have the old broken one apart already so I know what I'm looking at.
