Stiff Clutch
Jeep Sahara 2003.
I had the clutch replaced last year and it seems to be fine. However, when the Jeep heats up (after about half an hour) the clutch pedal becomes quite stiff to push down. Any ideas as to what may be causing it? |
Re: Stiff Clutch
A shot in the dark - check the fluid level in the clutch reservoir
|
Re: Stiff Clutch
I checked the fluid, that seems to be ok.
What else? When I depress the clutch it makes a creaking noise (outside). Could it be the slave? Does the input shaft of the transmission require grease when the throw-out bearing is installed? |
Re: Stiff Clutch
From Service manual
INSTALLATION (1) Lubricate crankshaft pilot bearing, input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide surface, fork pivot and release fork pivot surface. Lubricate with Mopar high temperature bearing grease or equivalent. (2) Install new release bearing. Verify bearing is properly secured to release fork. (3) Install transmission. |
Re: Stiff Clutch
I took off the clutch slave cylinder and removed the boot. Brake fluid is leaking from the plastic inside. I'll change the slave and see if that is the problem.

Re: Stiff Clutch
I changed the slave yesterday, looks like that was the problem.

Re: Stiff Clutch
I have an update for the "Stiff Clutch" issue.
I replaced it with a new LUK clutch from Just Jeeps in Ontario. It now works great, just the way a (quality) clutch should. |
