Steering Box Leaking

This is a normal occurrence on the tj's leaking box. Seems its a fault in design that so many leak at the input (top seal). You buy a rebuilt or one from a scrap yard and the fault is still there best buy something different. You might be able to find a repair kit ifyou have one b/4 2002, after that no more kits were available. Looking at something from the usa as found I can get a different design (new) for the price of a rebuilt here) Keep away from the stealership (thot it was a funny name calling) but call them and ask what the price for a new box. you'll call them this name too.

Re: Steering Box Leaking

Mine has been leaking the same rate ( very slow, a drop a day probably) since I bought it last year. I've added a small amount of fluid to the reservoir a few times. Other than the oil stain on the driveway, is there really any issue to just leaving it as it is, or will it get worse over time?

Re: Steering Box Leaking

I tried Lucas power steering sealer, 1 container and if 1 isn't enuff it suggests another (wonderful). It didn't work. It will get worse over time,(your not dripping much now) big tires put more strain on the system that said then why did the box on my 89 xj (original) last though 33" tires. Crappy steering box on the 03 tj. I purchased one thur PJF4x4 in Dorion it was a PSC steering box a little heftier than the original one at a very reasonable price. PSC is located in Texas check their website.

I went on the PSC site and they have a number of steering boxes to choose from with various prices. Do you have the part number or SKU for the one you purchased.

Thanks.....b

Here's their website http://www.pscmotorsports.com/vehicl...06-jeep-tj-lj/
Part nr SKU 400 This box is a little larger than the original one, but when u install it make sure where the pin is on the steering column it is either drilled out or however removed then heat the shaft and the plastic piece inside will melt to let the column become straight (do NOT cut and reweld the shaft) as some may do it this way its not legal.(There are no installation papers in the box) If you have any problems installing just phone the tech dept in Texas there very helpful (remember their on a different time zone)
And No its not leaking bone dry under the truck now - also it takes power steering fluid not atf+4 as the original tj 2003 took.
