New guy help
Hi guy's, looking to buy a jeep, looking for a TJ any year... all though I have a few questions concerning the options.. I'm going for sure withe the 4.0 L and the manual trans.
I would like to know if any options on specific years are a must have and what years should I be looking for. I'm would like to put about 15k on the truck and then raise the susp. 2-6 inch and the body 2-6 inch. Looking to do some mild off road.. Thanks for the info Simon |
Re: New guy help
Well depending on what u want to spend to start with? A rubicon is nice has most of the things on it already like lockers, dana 44's (4.11 gearing) heavy duty joints, I am sure alot more I haven't mentioned. The 2 door extended cab is nice (depending on how many people your intending to drive around) I don't like the new ones they look like a funeral box. Remember they have the smooth lines of a BRICK in the wind, so don't expect to get great mpg. I wud go for a 4-6" suspension lift.(at 4" you can run 35" tires (I run only 33") Not a body lift as you will find it very hard to handle in a strong wind on the road. You will very likely need a slip yoke eliminator if you go above 4" lift. To see what I am talking about go to this site Slip Yoke Eliminators. Shop around for you lift kit, there are alot of well known names to chk out. I bot a Superlift 4" lift kit, which came very complete the extra's I had to buy was a larger damper (the shock that in the steering-the stock one sucks)
Heres a couple of website's to check out: www.national4wd.com, they have stores in Canada (I have dealt with there Chateauguay store) www.pjf4x4.com (dorion qc) Both I highly recommend nice people And if you in the Mtl area get back to me theres a club you might want to join..once you get that jeep of course... |
Re: New guy help
Stay away from the body lifts, as Mr. White said.

Re: New guy help
Body lifts make me wanna cry, because of the loss of side-wind stability. Agree with above posters.

Re: New guy help
My advice, find something that is already built, that way everything that will break is already fixed atleast once, also there are some good deals out there to save you a couple of bucks, Good Luck:banana:

Re: New guy help
or go SOA ,but do your research, you'll get about 6" of lift

Re: New guy help
yeah... finding something already built properly will always save you a ton of cash...

Re: New guy help
If your thinking of buying a pre built Jeep take somebody along with you that knows what to look for or you may end up buying the previous owners problems.
