Looking at a TJ - Questions regarding gas/engine types and parts

Hi all,

I was looking for a TJ with a lift kit already installed. I found one, it's a 2000 V6 4.0L with 230K though. I need to use this as my daily driver and I drive to work 2 cities away daily...is a Jeep a bad idea? How much does it cost roughly to fill one of these Jeeps up and how many K will I get out of a tank cruising to work (non highway)? Do you guys mostly have jeeps for a weekend toys? I'm looking at TJ's from 99-2001. Was anything changed in these years? Are there any 4cyl jeeps? If so, are they slow hogs?

It also only needs a couple of things: tailpipe hanger and shifter mount. The tailpipe hanger looks like a cheap part and easy to install...what about the shifter mount?

I found another TJ with like 130K, but i'm not a fan of the paint color (dark blue).

Thanks all

well I have the 4.0L and it is not at all cheap on gas it cost me about 55$ a tank and I get about 450km out of it, i only drive city with a lot of stop signs. they are good trucks when i first gone mine all the universal joints had to be changed and the wheel bearings, seems like a common thing i really enjoy driving it, it is like a sports truck makes it alot of fun and never have any problems in winter and the heater works really well but mostly in the front sucks for the people in the back i would not get a 4cyclinder alot of shifting and my friend has one and always says he is going to sell his and by a 6 cause of power

i got a 05 rubicon with the 4.0L strate 6, 6 speed man i love it but it not good on gas bout 400km a tank i live in the mountians so mostly hiway and off road driving kinda scarry in the winter (they dont use salt in the nat parks) but with the stock lokers front and back it cant be beat. but it depends on what you want to use it for if doing a lot of city driving i would stay away from the big lifts and rubber more on gas plus you dont know who put the lift in

I'm curious what is the guys asking for the 2000 and also the 2001 you mention here? Whatever you decide make sure you get a title check done, I don't know what you have in Ontario, but here in Quebec thur the government we have "RDPRM" for about $10. they will make a title check for you.. which is a real deal for peace of mind.

Yup, I ended up buying one, thanks!. I didn;t buy the one I posted about in the thread b/c I wanted something with lower K. I found a 2000 TJ with only 113K with hard top, soft top, soft doors. I've been having a lot of fun with it so far but the lady doesn't really enjoy the bumpiness of the ride, along with the hair ruining with the top down lol
