Jeep tj rubicon

Hi there this is my first time on this forum, I am currently the proud owner of a 1990cherokee and I have loved jeeps as long as i can remember but my knowledge of jeeps and thier "quirks" lie with my cherokee I have 0 knowledge of the tj's I have the option of buying a 2006 rubicon with less than 60'000 Kms it comes with both tops it's 5spd 4.0L two sets of wheels and tires (unknown on the one set the others are stock) and a cold air intake. My questions are what would be a fair price to pay for this jeep the asking is 17'000and how is the reliability of the 5spd trans i've been talking to a mechanic I know quite well so I know he has an opinion over fact problem and he said the 5spd trans is crap is this true my plans for it are to keep it on road with minor offroading ie. camping and it's going to be baby'd I have my cherokee built for the harder offroad stuff so this will be my pavement princess. i'm sure i will get a bad time from you tj guys for making my cherokee the offroad and the tj my pavement princess but along with the bad time i would really appreciate some info thank you in advance and sorry for the novel.

it should have a 6 speed, not a 5 speed. and clutch to the floor when you shift or else you will be buying a new NSG 370.

Ya sorry the guy said manual didn't specify i assumed old body old driveline so as long as you shift easy on it and aren't shifting like a crazy person it should be good?/

Well,
Lots of can go wrong, lots cannot.

Check for signs of abuse. Check the U-Joints, Tie rod ends for regular maintenance.
How do the locks work? Any noise when engaging and disengaging?
17000 does sound alot. With less than 60000 sounds like it was parked alot, which wold make me think of cracked or dried out seals. Any bod mods or damage? CAI does not do anything, other than a cool name.

I am sure you've thought of all these things, these are a few that come to mind.

Hope this helps, looking forward to seeing on QE2
