make sure you are putting in the right thickness of oil as if you are putting in a higher grade of oil then sae 5w-30 this will cause it to go up you may notice this when you change your oil that it goes up higher at first because of the addititives in the oil then after about 2000km goes a little lower i would try a oil change but if not one of your engine oil ways in the motor may be block and your oil pump is trying to compasate for it or like you said your sensor is falty I would bring it to a garga eor check it or you may have serious engine problems

Do an oil change with the correct amount of oil and replace the oil pressure sending unit before bringing it to a garage. Cheap, easy and probably your problemo. Those things are notorious for screwing up. Or go to a garage and have them test the actual oil pressure, not what your gauge is showing.

????? WTF?????
Why would you run 5W30 unless its way below zero? 10W30 is the way to go except maybe December to March.

Wondering the same thing: 5w-30? 10w-30 synthetic.

For the OP: 1st change the oil to a full change of 10W-30 synthetic. See if that solves anything. If it doesn't, check your sending unit. Or go to a shop and get the actual pressure checked. Do this in stages, but without too many more miles. But DO find the problem/cause. No oil, bad oil, lack of proper amount of oil all create disaster in the making.

The gauges are in bar, not psi. 1 bar is 14.5 psi or 100 kPa. Take the gauge out, it's by the filter, put in a pressure gauge, make sure the pressures good. If it is then get a new sending unit, if not find the problem.

As for oil, I always run Mobil 1 10w30.
