Engine ticking noise
Hi there,
I have a '05 unlimited TJ with 79000 km's on it with a six speed manual. I've noticed that when she starts up (particularly in colder temps) there is a ticking coming from the motor. I replaced the belt thinking that was the issue but it still ticks. Next oil change I used on of those "engine clearer" systems that didn't help either. I use nothing but sythetic oil... any thoughts?? |
Re: Engine ticking noise
I have the same ticking, but i have a 2001 with 200,000km's. Goes away after 5 mins once the engine warms up. Ive heard from other people its a common thing for jeeps. Not sure what its from.

Re: Engine ticking noise
Sounds like Valve tick/stick. Try a flush, Then Higher grade Oils.

Re: Engine ticking noise
I have the same thing in my 2004 4.0 l....Just going to drive it, it won't harm anything. It's your typical amc engine.

Re: Engine ticking noise
What weight Oils are you using?.. The ticking seems to be a valve and it stops ticking due to the oil heating up. Got video at all?

Re: Engine ticking noise
1. Use a quality oil filter with a reliable filtration media and quality anti-drainback valve (No FRAM, MotoMaster, STP, quick lube no-names, etc)
2. Experiment with quality oil, keep the startup viscosity low (eg 5W-whatever) 3. If it's a 4.0, its probably your lifters 4. Keep up with oil changes and drive for 500,000 KM |
