clutch issues
Hey guys, looking for a little advice. Just bought a 03 TJ with 93000 kms. Running fairly well but the clutch seems a little off. Reading thru your previous posts I think its the throwout bearing. With the clutch pedal to the floor (I believe this is disengaged, correct me if I'm wrong) the engine and tranny sound good, but sitting in neutral, pedal released, their is a loud spinning sound. Also when I shut the engine off with the pedal pressed in it shuts off smoothly, but with the pedal released the engine sounds like it is chocking to a stop, almost like a diesel. So does this sound like the problem? And if it is, is it an easy repair? I am comfortable doing routine maintance (i.e. brakes and oil changes) but have never opened an engine or tranny . If I shouldn't attempt it, what would be a fair price to fix?
Thanks Shawn |
Re: clutch issues
sounds like the throwout bearing... you would have to have the tranny removed in order to get to it... if you have to pull the tranny you might as well get the clutch done as well...
sounds like a $700-1000 at least... |

Re: clutch issues
How hard of a fix is it to do myself? Let's just say on a scale of 1-10. and roughly how long a job for a rookie like myself?

Re: clutch issues
if your a rookie...than the clutch is one heck of a job... i myself can do some basic work, had a car that needed a new clutch and i sat around to watch them do it...i than saw that this was something i didnt have the time or effort to even get in to doing

Re: clutch issues
Before you go and repair this yourself. Check with Chrysler its a 03 with 93000 km its still on warrantee, the power train is for 115000 km and 6 or 7 yrs (I think its 7 yrs) but the mileage I am sure of.

Re: clutch issues
powertrain is 100,000 i would know considering i wokr at a dealer ship

Re: clutch issues
2003 warranty was 7 years/70,000 miles in the USA. 70,000 miles is about 112,600 kms, so 7/100,00 sounds reasonable.
As you notice, we Canucks are getting shafted again. Not just by pricing but by warranty coverage as well. Screw bailouts for Canadian automotive industry imo. It's time those bums sucked some lemons for a while instead of us upstanding Jeep drivers ;?) Either way, with 93k on the clock you're covered. Make sure the strealership fixes it right and gives you a warranty on the work carried out that doesn't expire with the original warranty. |
