Default 4L question

Hey I'm looking at a 98 TJ 4L for sale has 298 000km claims that most of it is highway km anything to watch for when I take it for a test drive how far can they go before major work is needed? How much would you pay for it? body is in good shape and every thing works that i know of.
Any help would be appreciated

I would get it on a hoist and have a good look at all the u-joints, fluid conditions, any rust issues,

the motor I would look in thru the oil filler cap and look for sludge

the general condition of the engine compartment is a good indicator of how well it was loved or ignored...

And check for leaks, especially the rear engine seal. At almost 300,000 kms you might be replacing some seals, but these 4L are known to be 300,000 mile engines, so as long as it runs alright, you probably don't have much to worry about, engine wise.
