4 cylinder jeep
 

i have a four cylinder jeep and i want to put a 6inch lift and 33inch tall tires on it how under powered will I be on the trail and how fast could i got on the Highway?

i am currently running the 2.5 in my 95 YJ,i am running a 4" lift and i swapped in some 33 x 10.5 Tsl's.

i am still able to run 100k/hr but those squirrels are screaming, as for the trails it is ok, not great, and i dont tackle too much mud, you really feel the lack of power when trying to get up some of those steeper, longer hills.

A friend has a 94 yj 4 cy 4.10 gearing (std for that model) with 2" body lift and 4" suspension lift (has done a spring over) so hes higher than 6" total. Running 33x12.5r15 swampers. Now I wud suggest if your doing a 6" lift u do it all on the suspension as my friend does say that on the highway with the set up he has its very hard to hold on the road when its windy. As far as power is concern YES he lacks it. His prise job would be to find a 6 cy motor and tranny and do a change. But there are allot of fellows running a 4 banger but have 4.10 gearing which does make a big difference. I run a 03 tj but have the std 3.07 gearing and I tell u that really sucks offroad, even tho I have a std 6 cy. I need a gear or axle change to 4.10 which u make it an ideal vehicle. Too much clutch playing on the hills and over rocks.

Do you know of any good mods that i could put into my jeep that would give it a bit more power if i do go with the 33's and 6 inch lift?

As many bolt-ons as you can find, air intake, exaust, throttle body spacer, ect,
until you decide to put the supercharger on it ($$$$). There are a few things to gain little horsepower, but nothing really to get you what everyone wants, MORE POWER!

or do the engine swap before you drop all the $$ into the bolt-on's

Bolt-ons are a waste of time and money in a 4 cylinder Jeep, and a TBS is just about the worst thing you can do to it. Best thing you can do is give it a good tune up, or like Gleddy said, drop in a 6 or 8.

But that's just one man's opinion.

Hey if I update my tires and lift will i have any mechanical problems with the smaller four cylinder setup such as blowing diffs or trannies or even engines????

There will obviously be a higher load on the motor and drivetrain because your turning larger mass(wheels). Does anyone have more info for Jessie?

using my setup, mentioned earlier, i have not yet blown anything.
i have been running this setup for a few years now, constantly adding more weight to my jeep (bumpers, gear) i fear the engine will be the first to go, then after a swap i am sure the rear axle will go next, but to date i am still waiting to for something to explode so i can replace.

Replace the rear axle with a good one ( Dana or Ford 8.8 ) and some 488 gears and some kind of locker or True Track and call it a day. Thats if your running 33's , you will need more gearing with bigger tire's.
