Wrangler 3.07 vs. 3.73 Axle

Does anyone have any info on the difference in speeds at a given RPM (or
vice versa) for each gear for the 3.07 vs the 3.73 axle.

Also any comments re the the pros/cons of each would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bill, trust me on this... if you're considering which Jeep to buy, one with
a 3.07 vs. one with 3.73, go for the one with the 3.73. The engine will
struggle less (due to slightly higher engine rpms) and you'll be MUCH
happier with the all-around performance of the 3.73 than you would with the
3.07 that no one I've ever talked to that had the 3.07 ever liked.

Just a guess, but if stock, one would be for the 5 speed and the other
for the automatic. The difference is in the tranny ratios so the auto
will rev the same on the highway as the 5 speed at the same mph.

I also have done many highway runs beside the auto version and the mpg
is really close to the same.

Hi Bill,
The only reason for the three to one gear ratio is SMOG compliance,
in an attempt to get better gas mileage ratings, but because the engine
must work so... much harder to maintain traffic speeds it fails badly on
highway ratings, too. Dream wheels are at:
