Worn out XJ Shocks

The shocks in my wife's 00 XJ have just about had it. The rear passenger
one is definitely blown. There's fluid everywhere. The driver's side front
one is leaking as well, though not as bad. The other two at least aren't
leaking.

I'm trying to convince her we need to get a new set. She said "it rides
fine". Doesn't seem to think this is important. I don't have any
'credible' info to dispute that thought, but I've got to say a siezed shock
sounds scary. So, what exactly happens when a shock "goes"?? They have 64k
miles on them right now.

That said, I'm looking to replace them (Yes, I know, DT's, Procomps, etc are
all made by the same people and are the same) so what to buy? I don't want
to waste my money on stock shocks, but want a good ride. This is more
grocery getter than rock crawler (that's what my TJ's for!). It does have a
2" lift. I was thinking OME...

Re: Worn out XJ Shocks

I've got a set of Skyjackers Hydro 7000's on the way for my 89 Cherokee. A
2" lift is coming as well. Will be a few weeks before I get everything put
on, but I'll let you know how it works out.

BTW, how did you lift her Cherokee? Front coil spacers and rear add-a-leaf?

Re: Worn out XJ Shocks

No, front coils and rear shackles. DON'T do that. Those were a PITA to get
on and I've heard are bad from springs. Not to mention the front end... had
to get a new track bar to line things up right and finally get rid of the
death wobble. I lifted my TJ 2" at the same time and didn't have to do
anything with the trackbar. Those XJs can be a real pain when lifting... so
do it right the first time. If I had to do it over again I would've gone
straight to a 3" lift (new front coils, new spring packs for the rear). Not
too high, but still high enough.

Re: Worn out XJ Shocks

So the front spacers are NOT the way to go?

The kit I've got coming has..

2" Add a leaf (rear)
2" Front coil spacers
Front and rear Hydro shocks
Steering stabilizer
Sway bar bushing kit
rear u-bolts
Sway bar end links.

It's all from Skyjacker..

Will I need a new track bar? Does this sound like a good combination?
