Winch Question
Is there any way to test the pulling power of a winch? I am feeling that the
winch is not pulling her weight and want to secure some numerical data to support or refute this hypothesis. Any help here would be great! TIA Jeff '03 TJ '95 ZJ |

You want to improvise a force meter, but to what precision? Crude: breaking rope of known breaking strength. |

Well, the max capacity of a winch is on the first wrap of the cable, as you
gain additional wraps, the capacity drops off. This is part of the reason we told you to get a 8000 lb minimum capacity. Give us some more details, perhaps we can give a plausable explanation of what you think you are experiencing. Of course, an explanation won't make the winch work any better, but it will help you to understand why it isn't broken.
