Willy's rebuild info?? OR/WA

Hey all,
My doc has what he thinks is a 47 Willys (flatfender) Jeep. For the last 15-20 years
it has been parked in a barn over in Eastern Oregon on his parents farm. As far as
anyone can remember, when it was parked it ran fine other than the clutch needed
replacing.

In the spring he plans to pick the Willy's up and wants to have a shop do the
engine/tranny/drivetrain/axle work on it. Body work is a separate issue for the most
part. The doc is not mechanically inclined and cant do the work himself. He would
like to use this as a hunting rig and for running about town when the weather is
nice, etc.

Anyone have any ideas of where I can point him to talk to folks about this, or a shop
that you know is capable and willing to work on these old rigs?

He is located in Portland, but would be willing to take the Jeep pretty much where
ever in OR/WA to get the right person working on it.

Ideas??

Thanks.
-jenn

Hi Jennifer,
Wherever your Doctor takes it, it's going cost him big time,
virtually everything must come apart. every surface will be rusty, the
dry tops of the cylinders, gears in the trans, transfer, rear ends,
Usually within five years without running to circulate the fluids, it
will be pitted beyond repair. Stuff will look good like the brake flex
lines, but the rubber will have swollen shut, and of course the brake
cylinder will have been history several times in this past twenty years.
I see an injected Chevy in your Doctor's future.

Turn him on to: http://www.advanceadapters.com/catalog/catalog.html
so he'll have an idea of what engines to choose from, because it's a
safe bet the stock four banger will be cracked, as they all are, usually
very obvious a spider web of calcium deposits around the core plugs. V6
Buick, now Chevy are a nice fit:
http://www.apple.queensu.ca/cj3b/EngineSwap.html Or a sadly under
powered Pinto: http://www.apple.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Tech/PintoEngine.html Or
if he wants to cut a hole in the hood, and move the firewall back about
an inch, he could have a V8 and Advance or Novak will supply everything
needed, trans adapter, motor mounts, headers, and radiator, his shop
won't have to improvise a thing:
