What replaced SM465 transmission, and is it good in early/short CJ?

I'm going to be buying a Chevy 4.3L V6 for my CJ2A. I'm looking at
2001 and newer models, even 2006 or 2007 if I can get one. I'm going
to get one with a standard transmission so it will have the flywheel,
clutch, and bell housing that I need. What are the newer transmissions
that are paired with those? Are they logical for a swap? Novak
doesn't show them on their site, so I guess I may not be able to get an
adapter from them. I'll check AA once I know the model to look for
(unlike Novak, AA doesn't post as much info on their site (and I
haven't got the catalog yet)).

I kind of like the idea of having a really new engine, and tranny.
According to Chevy's web-site, the new Silverados have a 5-speed, but I
can't find model numbers or any technical info on gearing, size, or
anything like that (of course not).

If I buy the engine and tranny together, I'll save money. So if I can
use one of those newer trannys (I don't want to get an older engine),
sounds good to me!
