What oil for tranny and transfer case?
I have a Dana 300 transfer case from an 81 CJ7 and an AX15, 5 speed tranny
from a 97 TJ, anyone know what goes in for oil in either? Gear oil or ATF? |
Re: What oil for tranny and transfer case?
The Dana 300 takes 85W90 GL5 gear oil, don't know on the tranny.

Re: What oil for tranny and transfer case?
AX-15 Manual Transmission: 75w-90 GL3, 3.27 quarts
Avoid GL5 lubes with 'extreme pressure' additives. They lack sufficient friction for the synchros and are often sulfur based and corrosive to brass components at higher temps. Re: What oil for tranny and transfer case?
Be very careful with the gear oil at Canadian Tire!
I couldn't find any regular oil without the limited slip additive already in it. I don't know about the TJ tranny, but for sure the CJ's T-5 tranny will not shift with that kind of oil in it. I ended up going with a semi synthetic oil that was the only one I could find without the additive. Re: What oil for tranny and transfer case?
Acually with a little looking on the web I found a couple articles that
