What Jeep to look for?

Hi,
What model of Jeep is what? I am looking for a Jeep with the following
features:
-6 or 8 cyl
-4 x 4
-5 speed
-older, 1980 - 95
-carbureted, not fuel injection
-no factory fiberglass flares and rocker panels like on the 93 Wrangler.
-prefferably round headlights
-solid and reliable
Is there any resource on the web that can answer this for me?
Thanks,
Dan Hoskin

Re: What Jeep to look for?

The best resource, if you have not done this already (I have not checked
yet) is to post this issue in the rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys newsgroup.

All that said, I would recommend a 1986 CJ with the Dana 44 rear (hard to
find though).

Re: What Jeep to look for?

A couple of minor corrections to JimG's post. They DID put 5 spds in CJs
along with the better Tremec 4 spd. Also, the V8 was an option through
82 in the CJ5 and 7, I believe. Carbs were pre-91. 1990 YJs were carbed,
'91s were injected.

Your post is very cryptic, but nonetheless, you are wrong. 1990 YJs were
carb'd, 1991 and up were FI and called HO. End of story. However yours
might have been modded has no bearing on what the factory did.

Re: What Jeep to look for?

I think he has an '89 four cylinder, which would have been single port fuel
injected off the assembly line.

Damn, Earle. You got more out of that post than I did. Yes, I was
referring to 6 cyls. Nothing against fours, though. Had an 85 CJ7 that
had a four and I sure wish I still had the thing. :)
