What if the Nazis were nice?
Nice Nazis could have got the Jews to help them with the bomb. Nice
Nazis would have got far more Russian collaborators and perhaps not have inspired the stubborn resistance of the Russians and the British in WWII. "Nice" might have made the difference. And while they would not have won they would have concluded a beneficial peace treaty. |

The factor which pulled Germany's manifold splintered factions together was the myth of the evil Jew as common enemy. In his earlier days Hitler practiced hypocrisies as employing Ernst Rohm, openly homosexual, as were many of his top associates, as his military commander. In that context of the early Hitler, it would be conceivable for him to have condemned Jews as the national scapegoat and simultaneously to have employed Jewish scientists to develop weapons. But as the "Third Reich" advanced, Hitler became the image he projected, and felt compelled to have Rohm and all of his homosexual comrades executed, and he was likewise compelled to exterminate Jews, not just point his finger at them, in order to gain power. So what would have happened if Hitler had been killed before all that? Probably the same thing, essentially, because other men were competing for the leadership of the National Socialist movement, who would have been happy to take over. Likewise, Germany did not have the immense resources which the United States had in order to develop the bomb. It was a long long way from making some heavy water to actually having a practical bomb. Hitler was reluctant to make any big investment in that area, and really that would not have been too smart. |

Nice Nazis would not have attempted to overrun all of Europe, and drag the
entire continent into a socialist/facist empire.
