2000 lb is the legal limit in North America and with good reason. The
short wheelbase can end up with 'the tail wagging the dog' really easily
when trying to stop or turn fast as in avoiding something.

The Jeep has the power to pull it no problem, it's the stopping and turning.

Cops do know things like this and I for one have been pulled over for
having too big a tow on a full sized pickup even.

when trying to stop or turn fast as in avoiding something.

I loaded ten railroad ties in a trailer behind my CJ5. TALK ABOUT TAIL
WAGGING THE DOG!!! It scared the living ---- right out of me, but the moron
behind me kept coming even though it was clear that I might need the
oncoming lanes to stay if front of my trailer. Sheesh! Thank God I only live
about 2 miles from Home Depot!

I thought they just made that ---- up, but dude, I'm here to tell you that
it is real. Add an overloaded trailer with a light tongue and exceeding the
gross weight, and anything over about 15mph is a death sentence for you and
those around you.

Absolutely NOT!!!!! Spec is 2000 pounds. The drive train and brakes are
stout enough for more, the handling with short wheelbase and high center
of gravity are an invitation to a MAJOR disaster with that big a load.

FWIW, the only boat trailering my YJ does is positioning the trailer in
the backyard for the winter - and this is only because my dad's F150 is
2wd and spins tires in our usually muddy yard.
Even doing just this, trailering maybe a 100 yards at a time in 4lo, it
feels like the trailer is doing most of the pulling.
Our boat is a 19'.
