I have a Detroit in my AMC20 with Superior Gear one-piece axles.
In my humble opinion, the Detroit is bullet proof and if you can get one for 300 delivered to your door, jump on it. Also, if you provide the numbers on the casting to Tractech customer service, they can tell you when it was manufactured and whether it is an old style or the newer "soft locker." (The only real difference between the two is that the "soft locker" is a bit quieter when it disengages. They work the same.) I bought mine used . No regrets.
