Update: 90 YJ starter dies in snow/ Triple AAA

About a week or so ago I posted about my Jeep going over some deep snow and
the starter not working. Here is the follow-up.

After the Jeep finally got to the garage (and the separate post about the
triple A story, how it took all all to get the jeep 14 miles).

On the following Monday the garage people looked at the Jeep.

About a year ago, my battery strap broke, so I bunged the battery on to the
battery stand.

Apparently when I went up and over the snow bank, the jeep came down hard on
to the front wheels two thing happened.

1. The ground cable attached to the battery became loose, giving me
intermittent ground.

2. One of the plates in the battery (over 3 years old) collapsed, in effect
damaging that cell and the cell next to it. As the battery had jumped up
and down and slammed around a bit as the bungie had become loose.

That said, I had enough juice and ground to turn on lights or wipers, but
not enough juice to crank the starter.

It has been running fine since new battery and ground wire.

Oh, and Triple A - they called me last week with Half the story. None of it
consistent. I told them to go back to their supervisors and get the story
right.....From Oswego NY....lou

Yep. Hopping back onto my soap box for just one moment: Bungee cords
are not safety equipment. Heavy items tied down with bungees do not
stay in place on impact.

OK, I'm done. Move along. Nothing to see here.
