Unlimited

My little brother just called me to tell me he picked up his new
unlimited today. He ordered it from jeepwarehouse.com and had it
shipped to a dealer in Tucson, where he lives. It arrived even before
their demo model did, and they seemed to think he has the first one in
the area.

The semi-funny part is, that it has been sitting in their back lot since
this weekend while the final paperwork went back and forth to
jeepwarehouse, and they let him sit in it and take pictures. Well, just
like clockwork he calls me up on Monday to tell me that his '97 TJ had
died in the parking lot at work, apparently in a fit of jealousy. It's
making unhappy noises and the current speculation is a problem in the
transfer case. I didn't know that you could cheat on a Jeep, but
apparently the retribution for doing so is swift and sure. Sounds like
he's going to have to keep those two apart....

Re: Unlimited

I stopped by a dealer earlier this week to take a look at an
Unlimited. My two oldest children (14 and 11) are getting to the size
where they can't comfortably sit in the rear seat of my 98 TJ. They
don't ride in it everyday, but often enough that I'd like for them to
be comfortable when they do. I thought maybe the two extra inches of
rearward placement of the rear seat in the Unlimited might make them
more comfortable. Wrong. I sat in the backseat and found that they
moved the seating position rearward but left the floorwell in the same
location. As a result your feet tend to be pinned forward by the tub
ledge. Didn't like it at all. I was envious of the extra room behind
the rear seat though. So it looks like I'll be keeping my TJ. Just
had the rear pinion seal, serpentine belt, and radiator replaced.
Good for another 80k. No other significant maintenance costs so far.
Purchased new in April of 98.
