Trouble Code 43
Hi all! Subject code came up twice. Does that mean I have two cylinders
misfiring? Any suggestions on what is causing the misfires before I take it to a shop? Vehicle is a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee I6 40.L 4x4. Mileage is 175K. Thanks for your input. Fernan |

Re: Trouble Code 43
I have extensive experience with this code but relax, there is a way to cure
it. I replaced literally everything possible, ignition related, trying to cure my multiple '43' codes, up to three of them at once. Plugs, wiring, distributor, rotor, ignition coil, etc. Then a Detroit-based Jeep engineer contacted me after seeing my multiple posts on this problem and sent me a bunch of parts for free to try since his engineering department was very curious about it. From that kit, I replaced the fuel injectors, the FI wiring harness, and the entire computer... still no help. Then a local Jeep buddy clued me in to a new TSB (tech service bulletin) on the problem. It turns out that during the '96/'97 model year, there was a bad/weak batch of valve springs causing valve float which caused cylinder misfires. Replacing my valve springs finally cured the problem. Your dealer can tell you about the TSB.
