transmission cover bezel ?
Hello,
I am fixing and cleaning up my Jeep before the good weather starts. it's a '79 CJ5. what I was wondering is : There is a transmission cover that goes over the hole in the floor where the 2 sticks for the tranny and transfercase come up through. That cover has 2 holes for the rubber boots. Is there (are there) a bezel that goes over the rubber boot on the bottom ? if so ...are there after market ones available ? thanks, Ron |
Re: transmission cover bezel ?
Are you talking the shifter and transfer case boots? If so mine just screw
to the cover. Hi Ron,
It's probably easiest just to cut one out of sheet metal, and add any of the after market boots sold at any Hot Rod shop. Re: transmission cover bezel ?
Nope, only the metal plate and the rubber boots.

And I suppose the rubber boots go on there from underneath ?

Re: transmission cover bezel ?
Yes,
those are the ones. I do have the metal cover. I was just wondering if there was a bezel that clamps the rubber boot between the metal tranny cover and "that" bezel. Re: transmission cover bezel ?
Yup, I used stainless screws to help keep it nice.

Re: transmission cover bezel ?
Both my `79 CJ-5 and the `78 donor hulk had steel trim rings for each
set of shifter boots. The rings are about 2/4" wide (without looking) and hold the edge of the boot fairly tightly against the transmission cover plate. The hold-down screws pass through the rings. The rings also eventually crack through the screw holes. Perhaps yours were tossed out. Flipping through a few catalogues it seems that no one makes them. Odd, I'd think that they'd be offered in stainless along with billet light knobs.
