tranny problem
 
hello everyone, one of my buddys kids bought a 98 sahara with a four
inch lift about amonth ago. said it isnt shifting out of second
(automatic) now. any ideas beside the thing was beat to hell before or
the tranny is just shot. (70,000 miles) he is taking it in i guess for a
tranny diagnostic check. thanks and have agood day. john jr

One thing that comes to mind is that the shift linkage is out of adjustment.
One of the available settings is to shift from Low to 2nd, then stay there.
It is possible for the pointer on the shift lever to point to D, but the
trans is really in the 2 mode. I suggest trying to fiddle with the shifter
to see if N is really D, etc.

If this doesn't work, then a trip to the tranny shop will probably be
needed.
