the TJ is rated at 4400lb / 2000kg here for a trailer with brakes ;-)
Perhaps you guys get a lower rating as you are more ligitious / compensation
payouts are higher ...

Yes, in stock form. Lift it and put bigger "TYRES" on it, and see what
happens.

I've got a 5x8 trailer set up to haul my motorcycles. My YJ actually
rides better when pulling the trailer, but since it's a 4 cyl, I find
myself spending a lot of time in 3rd gear.
My wife's Cherokee, OTOH has pulled that trailer, with 2 bikes and a
bunch of gear loaded, all over the country with no problem.
The trailer weighs in at about 750 lbs empty and the bikes add about
1300-1400 lbs so I'm at about 2250 when fully loaded.
