Thanks for the info. Great write-up. This is clearly way beyond the
scope of my mechanical ability, and probably budget too. Looks like
CRWLR might have the easier solution.

Yeah, sorry for the bad news. I am not the best mechanic in the world, but I
am pretty confident that I could pull this project off, but it would be
loads easier and cheaper to just buy a 4x4 in the first place than to
convert a 2WD into a 4WD. If you had the 4WD already that was a suitable
donor, then you could convert the 2WD without too much trouble. But, if you
had to buy the parts to do the conversion, you could buy the truck you
wanted to end up with already assembled and ready to go.

I wasn't trying to convert a 2wd to a 4x4, I just was thinking about
swapping out my 5-spd for an auto. Still, way over my head - I'll just
keep shiftin'
