TJ Steering box problems
Just developed another major leak to my 99 TJ steering box. This is the
second time, as the first one, about a year ago, was replaced under warranty. I am running 33 inch tires. Now for the question ... what is the best replacement for the stock TJ steering box? Bill |

Hey good question I was just getting ready to ask the same thing.
I developed a pretty major hemorage when I went from 30's to 31's on my 97 TJ. Leaking around where the shaft comes out the bottom of the box and attaches to the linkage. I'm refilling the pump resv. around every 4 days, starting to get annoying. Take a look at the AGR SuperBox 2. I'm still looking for experiences from
other guys who've used them. I've heard some disappointment with the product they got and I think you need to be careful about which you select (SB1 vs. SB2). This company basically takes gearbox cores and remanufacture them to custom standards, i.e. ratio, variable ratio, billet end cap/top cap, zinc or nickel plating, bearings, etc. If you're fed up with the stock box, this might be what you're looking for. Heck, the "RockRam" is probably overkill. Consider steering box bracing/reinforcement for rough trails. http://www.agrsteering.com/ P.S. Check the other thread for tips. Maybe we'll combine the two as "Jeep Steering" or something since there's three different folks asking about it in different posts.
