TJ Differential Problem - Advice

My '98 TJ has just under 41K miles and was diagnosed with some form of
differential problem. I won't know the extent problem until Monday, whether
it's a bearing issue or ring and pinion gears or what (like I'd know the
differrence).

What do you think my chances are of receiving any consideration from
Jeep/Chrysler/Daimler? With only 41K miles this shouldn't have happened,
right? Any suggestions on how to best try to handle this (besides simply
handing over my wallet) would be most appreciated.

If it matters, I have the Dana 44 with LSD.

Thanks.

Re: TJ Differential Problem - Advice

I read in the newspaper several years ago that Chrysler Corporation gave the
owner of one of their minivans a new transmission at 60,000 miles. The
owner wrote Chrysler and said that it didn't seem right for a transmission
to fail with that few miles. Somebody high up in the corporation agreed,
and the owner got a new transmission. That was under different ownership
though.

hi earle,
customer service like that is a true rarity. when it was determined that
the 3.0 head gaskets were faulty, toyota replaced many 3.0 v6 engines that
had over 100,000 miles on them. voluntarily. here is just one example.

Guess that's why Toyota is consistently top of the customer satisfactions
surveys.

ive owned more toyotas than i have jeeps and while i prefer a jeep over
anything, i think every manufacturer could benefit by adopting toyotas
customer service guidelines.

Define "anything." It's too bad that they stopped selling FJ40s in the
United States, isn't it?

i would rather drive a swb jeep than any other vehicle on the road. it
would be fun im sure, to play around with a viper or another comparable
exotic car but when that excitement passed id want my jeep again.

Besides, if there really was an automobile price war, Toyota would win. They
could afford to give away every third car they sell. Toyota has 55 billions
in Cash. No other automotive OEM can claim that.
