tires and the 2.4L
Hello all, first post here at rec. I lurk at alt. but have just started
lurking here ... I'm wondering how much power loss I'm gonna have going to a bigger tire on my '04 TJ, I realize I'm going to loose 5th gear - not to upset about that... wondering if anyone may have a suggestion or two about the size of tire I should jump up to for a stock 2.4L unlifted... I was thinking that a 31 inch tire maybe a little to tall for my little engine - I do a lot of highway driving - very little off roading - but I do enjoy the occasional romp through the woods - hoping not to loose to much on my MPG - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ~D -- o_o_o_o /| ,[_____], |ŻŻŻL --O|||||||O- ()_)Ż()_) ŻŻŻ )_) 03 Wrangler TJ se 4WD 00 Chevy S-10 4WD 95 Virago XV750 If you really want to e-mail me direct... please make the subject line say "this is not spam" or else, I won't get it... don't send me spam under the guise of not being spam, unless you want reported... and is loosing your IP, or e-mail address worth it? ~dave |
Re: tires and the 2.4L
You could _FIT_ 31s on there, no problem...however, I had a 4 banger
CJ7, 4.11 gears, and it had the STOCK tires on it. When I had a passenger and a little gear, it would absolutely die on hwy hills. I can't imagine what it would have been like with 31s. With all that hwy driving, I just don't see being happy without regearing. closed wrote: > Hello all, first post here at rec. I lurk at alt. but have just started > lurking here ... I do have to downshift to 4th on big hills and headwinds .... but I was

Re: tires and the 2.4L
30s wouldn't be as bad. I had a 4spd in the CJ7 and had to downshift
into 3rd on the hills, loaded. It was a PITA. I decided at that point to always get a 6 cyl. in the future, and 5 Jeeps later, they've all been sixes. closed wrote: > I do have to downshift to 4th on big hills and headwinds .... but I was > figuring that jumping up to a 30 inch will only add 1/2 inch or so to the > diameter - If I loose 5th gear its no big deal but I don't want to have > difficulty in 4th... ~D > > "twaldron" <thomas@OBVIOUSrubicons.com> wrote in message > news:RZ11c.3478$vG7.3184@newssvr22.news.prodigy.co m... > >>You could _FIT_ 31s on there, no problem...however, I had a 4 banger >>CJ7, 4.11 gears, and it had the STOCK tires on it.
