strange electrical problem..

'97 wrangler... The right turn signal is acting up. The strange part is,
it seems to work fine with engine on.. so maybe I shouldn't worry about it?
The right turn signal blinks rapidly (ignition on, engine off) with the park
lights on. It blinks normally with the park lights off. It blinks at
normal pace most of the time with engine running, park lights on or off.
Only the right side. The bulbs look and light up normally. Sometime, with
engine running, the rate of blink will speed up and then slow down again. I
have cleaned the ground wire right behind the right front headlight. No
change. Strange. Any help?
Also, does anyone know where to get replacement bulb sockets. The dealer
says I have to buy the entire harness.
thanks

Did you check the bulb contact points?
http://revbeergoggles.com/blub/

Could also be the blinker module is going bad. But usually the bulbs
just blink fast all the time.

And of course, remember to check the blinker fluid.

Short probably a filament inside one of your bulbs, connecting the brake
with your driving light harnesses.

Re: strange electrical problem..

well, they are out of 'blinker fluid', but have plenty of 'elbow grease', so
if all else fails, i can stick the arm out the window, point the hand up for
right turns (thanks to the 'elbow grease'.) hehe...
i will check on the price of the blinker module, so if cheap enough, it's
worth a try.

thanks

Re: strange electrical problem..

already tried replacing the bulbs. Two new ones would not work in the
socket at all.. so I wish I could find new sockets without replacing the
entire harness.
thanks for your help.

Taking advice from Bill is not a good idea. He's frequently incorrect,
and even when he's right it's usually after someone else has already
posted the correct answer. You're better off asking someone on the
group who actually knows things about Jeeps.
