Starting trouble...

I'm not really starting trouble. But I do have a question about my
Jeep starting.

1999 Cherokee Sport Limited I6 4.0L

When turning the key to start the motor, about half way through the
"start" process with the engine turning over, the whole process will
"die" for a split second (the engine will whirl to a sudden stop) then
it will kick back in and start fine. Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Pre detonation, which gasolines before you bend a rod, or break the
starter gear.

Re: Starting trouble...

That implies a bad main connection to me. The high amp draw causes a
failure, then it arcs over and keeps going. This will stop working very
soon.

I would be having the hood open when starting and do it a couple times
then get out and feel all the battery wire connections. The one you
find hot is the bad connection. Warning! 'Feel' them easy, they 'can'
be hot enough to burn you.

If one main cable end is corroded, all the main ones need cleaning on
both ends.
