slips out of 4 wheel drive (low)

My 95 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 aw4 tranny and np242 transfer case slips out
of 4wheel drive low. After passing neutral into low it will stay and
when I go it will slip out into neutral again. If I hold the shifter
in place all is ok. It works fine in 4wd regular.

Thanks Hank form pa

That can be a symptom of a bad engine or tranny mount.

Re: slips out of 4 wheel drive (low)

My Rubicon will do that half the time if I try to engage low from a stop.
The solution is to either do it (and do it fast - don't pause in neutral at
all) while you are hardly moving or to hold the lever in low until you feel
it catch when you ease off the clutch or give it gas if you have auto. Once
the gears catch it always stays in 4lo just fine.

Re: slips out of 4 wheel drive (low)

My 02 TJ was doing that after I installed my lift. The lever itself
needed to be adjusted, it wasn't anything wrong with the drivetrain.
Quick 60 second fix.
