signs and symptoms

When driving regularly, every once in a while, the air bag light will
appear and the speedometer stops working. When the air bag lights goes
off, the speedometer starts registering speed again. It has happened
approximately 4 or 5 times in the last year. This situation may last
as long as a few seconds, or until I finished driving and turn the
vehicle off. Is this a possible ECM problem? These two items should
not be related in code since there are two different sensors involved.
Does anyone have any ideas or theories?

Maybe you'd like to tell us what vehicle this is?

On a TJ, that means you have the one where the plug and socket for the
dash don't match. If you thump the top it might 'fix' for short periods.

One cheap fix is to remove the dash and give all the pins on the buss
connector a slight twist so they will fit in the slightly too large a
socket. I believe replacement plug/socket sets are available, but have
no idea the cost, likely the whole harness piece.
