She Runs!!!

Hey Everyone,
Today i finally got my CJ8 out of the garage under it's own power. I had it
fired up earler this week, but coolant got into #1 and had hellish valvetrain
noise from the 360. Granted i'm only using this 360 for a few months while i
completely rebuild a different one, but still, it was BAD. Coolant seepage was
because i didn't clean the bock/head well enough and the head gasket didn't
seat right. Some elbow grease and a new head gasket, problem solved. I
replaced the pushrods and lifters, used a lot of elbow grease on the rockers,
VERY quiet valvetrain now. Too bad i have an ENORMOUS exhaust flange leak.
Not a little ticking, mind you, but a big leak caused by a banana-shaped
flange. Tomorrow i hope to have it on the lift so i can loosen the pipe and
replace that flange. Coolant and oil levels are good, a little drip of ATF,
wanna check all my connections tomorrow. Gotta adjust the kickdown, and
alignment is very necessary.
All in all, it's looking good. My project that lasted almost a year and a
bunch of cash is finally on the streets. I forgot how nice it is to cruise
behind the wheel. The temp dropped to the low 50's tonight, but i didn't care.
The bikini top and windjammer are on the shelf: too nice of a night. Tossed
on a sweatshirt, and damn..... beautiful.
But i probably should replace that heater core soon ;)

Cool, it's a good feeling getting them back on the road isn't it?

Had my CJ7 down for a year doing a frame up with 'glass body build.

If you are replacing your heater core, while in there I 'highly'
recommend a big GM blower motor for the fan. On low, the sucker puts
out more than high did with the stock motor. No exaggeration either.

Heater blower upgrade WAS: She Runs!!!

I made this swap. Some things that applied to my `79 CJ-5 that are not
mentioned in the article:

The flat on the motor shaft (using the part specified in the article) as
it came out of the box extended only about 1/2", but the shaft is longer
than the stock Jeep part. I had to extend the flat towards the motor with
a grinder to allow the squirrel cage to sit properly.

The blower motor must be shimmed out away from the heater box with a 1/8"
gasket to allow sufficient depth for the squirrel cage. Those attempting
this upgrade should test the assembled blower and heater box while it is
still on the bench to make sure that the cage isn't rubbing on the inside
of the box.

If using a junkyard motor, keep the shaft hardware. The stock Jeep nut
isn't the same pitch. You will also have to mix-n-match washers and the
nylon spacer between the cage and the motor.

Re: Heater blower upgrade WAS: She Runs!!!

The pre-92 blower motor is the old smaller one. The upgrade mod applies to CJ
and Yj's through '91. I did it on my '87, works great, much more heat.
