Ouray is simply _spectacular_, especially for an East Coast Jeeper.
The SIlverton Steam Railway is a must-see also. I rented a Wrangler
Sport a couple of summers ago and enjoyed it tremendously. It wasn't
during a Jamboree though. I agree that 2 weeks is not enough time for
a road trip there and back. I also suspect that the rental companies
don't use Rubicons - they don't want folks on the nasty trails. The TJ
I rented had tall axle gearing, 235 tires and a bikini top. Give some
companies a call if you are interested. You would DEFINITELY have to
reserve a Jeep, if any are even available for that event.

One interesting factoid: I was concerned about my car insurance not
covering offroad use of a rental vehicle. Turns out most of the trails
have official Colorado county road numbers, so even if you roll your
rental Wrangler on a nasty off-camber boulder strewn trail, all
youhave to do is present the receipts to your insurance company with
the location - "County Road 18" or whatever.

If it were me... I would find another week and drive my Rubi out and
back. It would make a truly memorable vacation.

Re: Recommendations for a Jamboree?

You may want to try a CAMP JEEP also.
Much cheaper, hell of a lot of fun, + Chrysler is there with a room full of
engineers to answer questions and install factory and some aftermarket
options.

I've heard very good things about the YO Ranch Jam in TX.
