Rear main seal

Hey...........

Looking for some advice

My rear main seal started leaking and I noticed they sell 2 types

A 1 lip or 2 lip seal.

Can I use both or do I have to install a 1 lip if it has a 1 lip

Are 2 lip seals better ????

Any experience ???

Any advice welcome

Hi Ollie,
I not familiar with a seal with lips, some gear box seals use an
inner and outer dust shield. Usually the leak we see from the
bellhousing is coming from the rear of the valve cover. take a rag and
wipe it and again after a trip. Main seal: http://www.neow.org/rms1.html

Re: Rear main seal

You should run your engine then take a clean rag and wipe the rear of
the head below the valve cover to see if the leak is coming from there.
They leak there lots and it imitates a blown rear main seal.

I have never heard of different seals for that engine if it is the seal
gone. They are two piece seals that can be put in by removing the oil
pan. No need to remove the whole engine or tranny.

If they have 2 seals on the shelf they think fit, I would buy both and
just return the wrong one. If they grumble about the return, go to a
real parts store or even the dealer and just get the proper one to
start.
