Re: Oil on engine
On the plastic one, [4.0] does it really hurt to tighten them?
It SEEMS to have cut my leak down so I don't see anything on the driveway any more... someone else here posted that it was a waste of time. The dealer did say that it was a waste to just replace the gasket, to replace both, but a few of those darn bolts look like a PITA to get out of there.... Most of the time I've seen someone tighten the bolts to stop a leak they only managed to warp the valve cover and make the leak "better". :) On my I6 I just seat the valve cover in a nice bead of RTV then lightly tighten the nuts. Then a dab of RTV smeared around the threads keeps the nuts from backing off. That's lasted over 4 years. -- -- DougW -- 93 ZJ 4.0 http://members.cox.net/wilsond HESCO Supercharger - 300W IASCA Stereo - Edelbrock IAS Shocks Gibson Exhaust - rear DCpower - custom gauge install - Stillen Rotors |
Re: Oil on engine
As long as you tighten them properly and not over tighten them, it sure
won't hurt anything. 99% of the leaky ones I have seen had 'finger' loose bolts. Retorquing them helps a lot on the leak. Sometimes it even stops the leak totally.
