Ah, why didn't you say so before???
The ZJ's with the aluminum D44 center section are famous for the bearing noise in the rear end....I don't think they made one that didn't growl. My 96 ZJ (manufactured in November of 95) has the Dana 35C in the rearend. This was mentioned in one of my posts. I don't think all 96 ZJs have the 44 axle. I agree, though, one is about as bad as the other.
