Re: A/C Evaporator on Dodge Dakota? - UPDATE

So far I've spent about 6 hours on the project - 4 to remove the evaportator
and another 2 to get parts and service the system. I've spent $194.96 on
parts = I got the evaporator from http://www.acpartsnow.com/ for $87. The
accumalator at advanced auto parts for $72. I spent $25 at
www.alldatadiy.com for the service manual. Another few dollars for the
orifice tube and o-rings and $5 for a special tool to disconnect the gator
springs. Auto zone has the vacuum pump and the gauges as loaner tools. You
have to pay full price for them and you get all of the money back when you
return them.

I figure by the time I'm done I'll have 12 hours and $250 invested. For me
that's well worth it to save $700. Plus I learned a lot and I know exactly
what work was done, and the work was done right.

Here are some pictures of the process:

By the crud on the orifice, you found out what happens when the
system was converted to 134 without a completely flushing the old oil
out.

HomeBrewer did pass the time by typing:

Fooey.

It is an A/C system and so what if it's on a Dodge.
Conversion of R-12 to R-134a is something the
XJ owners may well be interested in.

Personally, I'm looking forward to your writeup.
