Re: 4.0 engine swap question..
The older 4.0 used the Rennix MPI and had a different
head/mainfold/exhaust where the '95 used the so-called High Output 4.0. Several hp difference due to the head/manifold/exhaust changes, not to mention the better MPI setup. If the old engine is tight, he would be best off if he had the 95 head re-worked and swapped it onto the older block but I would bet that the older engine has at least as many miles on it as the 95 has so I wouldn't hope for miracles no matter how he goes about it. A short block or full rebuild would probably be a better route unless he just needs to keep the wheels turning for a little while longer.
