Re: 360 and TH400 combo
Hi Kevin,
That Turbo Hydro 400 is a especially built by Kaiser to run behind the Buicks. It's on a tilt unique to Jeep, and I haven't see it used with any other engine. And we tried big time to adapt it to a 450" Olds to no avail, had to use another GM Turbo Hydro 400. So, steer him towards the Buick 350" it bolts straight in: http://www.----------.com/buickV8jeep.jpg God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- Kevin Sperle wrote: > > Anyone know off-hand if the AMC 360 (out of a 86 Grand Wagoneer) will > directly bolt up to the TH400 in a 70 commando? > > Got a buddy swapping in a 360 and not sure if it will directly bolt up. Re: 360 and TH400 combo
The problem is that he already has both the engine and the tranny (and just
removed his dauntless), only now did he wonder if it will bolt up (not very good planning). According to a guy on the AJC website there is a cast bellhousing to block adapter for it . Actually he is referring to an adapter for the 304/TH400 combo, but he seems to think that the 360 and the 304 share the same bolt pattern. I'll see what else I can find out. Thanks. "L.W. Re: 360 and TH400 combo
Afaik, all the V8 AMC engines that were used in Jeeps share the same
clutch housing bolt pattern with the 258. That bellhousing to block adapter sounds like an Advance Adapters part. Re: 360 and TH400 combo
Ow! That price would have to hurt! I think that these are standard
transmission adapters, anyway. The "4.686" and "5.125" look like some kind of measurement. I thought that there was an AA automatic transmission adapter which would work, assuming that the 225 has a GM V8 bolt pattern of course. How's the 225? Is it rebuildable? ;o) Earle Kevin Sperle wrote: > I think it probably is > > I found this, I don't know if it's right but....... > > BELLHOUSING ADAPTER KITS > Part No. Description > Price > 712570 JEEP ENG.BHSG X GM TRANS 4.686 > ........................................ $402.97 > 712571 JEEP ENG.BHSG X GM TRANS 5.125 > ........................................ $402.97 > > "Earle Horton" <enfermero_diabolico@registerednurses.com> wrote in message > news:bekh31$662af$1@ID-147790.news.uni-berlin.de... > >>Afaik, all the V8 AMC engines that were used in Jeeps share the same >>clutch housing bolt pattern with the 258. Re: 360 and TH400 combo
Understood. I think at this point its a matter of seeing if there is an AA
or novak adapter that can mate the AMC 360 bolt pattern to the GM TH400 pattern. "L.W. (ßill) ------ III" <----------@cox.net> wrote in message news:3F0DCE94.383BCFC5@cox.net... > The Kaiser, and AMC, and probably GM, Turbo 400 transmissions do > not share the same bolt pattern. |
Re: 360 and TH400 combo
But, the Commando transmission is NOT a GM Turbo, it's in a
different case that tilts the bottom pan up away from the front driveshaft. No other transmission does that. Re: 360 and TH400 combo
There wasn't for the 455" Olds, we did take the guts and put it in
the Olds case, but had major problems with the front driveshaft clearance. God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ Kevin Sperle wrote: > > So are you essentially saying there are not going to be ANY adapters even > from AA or Novak? |
Re: 360 and TH400 combo
Swapping guts seems like a good bet. If they have enough of a
suspension lift they just might clear the front drive shaft.
