Radiator help

Just changed all the hoses on my 81 CJ7, 258 engine, ran the engine for a
few minutes with cap off, but at least a gallon of antiF/water less went
back in then came out. I remeber when I was changing radiator in daughter's
YJ last year everyone here said I may have to burp the radiator. So question
is, what exactly does that intail?

Hi Greg,
The only radiator refills I've ever had a problem with are the
Ford's small V6s, where the thermostat is installed before the water
pump and block. I'd just lets yours warm normally with the cap off, so I
could see when the radiator level drops, telling us the thermostat has
opened. Turn on your heater in case it has a hose valve to remove any
air pocket there.

Re: Radiator help

I ran the engine with cap off and heater on for about 3 minutes and
radiator overflowed.

That means it boiled in the block before the thermostat open, I'd
go ahead and change it.
